About me
I'm a proud Wailwan (Aboriginal) man living in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. In my free time I love being active, going to the gym and going on nature walks. I consider myself a fitness enthusiast and I really enjoy playing video games in my free time! I'm also a proud catdad to two kittens, Coco and Rufus born in March 2023.
My university journey started later in life, which led me to a Doctorate of Philosophy (Immunology & Microbiology) awarded on the 4th of August 2021. I'm currently a fourth year medicine student and am enrolled in the Joint Medical Program at the University of Newcastle which includes a Bachelor of Medical Science & Doctor of Medicine. I'm also a part-time researcher/academic with several affiliations and many exciting projects!
Additionally, I'm actively engaged as a moderator for the Science Community on Twitter/X. My focus is on dispelling misinformation and fostering a better understanding of scientific concepts among the public.

Academic affiliations
I work as a post-doctoral researcher with the Aboriginal ear and immune health team. In this role I'm helping to expand our knowledge on ear disease, which disproportionally affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. I also hold two fellowships, one is co-funded by the national imaging facility and systems neuroscience group to foster Indigenous collaboration and ownership in the field of imaging research to improve the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians. The other fellowship is through NSW Health to investigate respiratory and ear bacteria which are known to cause life-threatening invasive disease. I'm an Indigenous tutor and mentor with the Wollotuka Institute, striving to assist mob with getting equal opportunity. Additionally, I was recently employed by the Hunter New England Local Health District as a technical assistant, helping out when there was an unmet need for extra support staff during the COVID-19 pandemic

- Awarded funding ($598,159 over 3 years) as part of the chief investigator team (CI-C) for research project entitled "Breathe for Bub: A culturally safe framework for the clinical care of Aboriginal women with asthma during pregnancy" through the MRFF Consumer-Led Research scheme.
- Successful Teaching and Learning Seed Funding application. Awarded $2,000 by the Education Network and the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education Innovation as part of the chief investigator team (CI-C) for project entitled "Indigenisation of the undergraduate curriculum in biomedical science, pharmacy and sport science: Consultation with Indigenous stakeholders".

- Received an NSW health early-mid career microbiomics research fellowship ($500,000 over 3 years) as lead chief investigator for research project entitled "Genomic surveillance of bacterial strains causing ear disease and upper respiratory illnesses in Hunter New England children and young people".

2018
