Indigenous health unit open day

August 27, 2022

Today I assisted the Thurru team (the Indigenous health unit) with the University of Newcastle's open day event. It was a great opportunity to yarn with prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and talk about the medicine program.

The event, the first since 2019, was attended by 3,000 community members and prospective students who toured the Callaghan and City campuses. University staff, teachers, and students were available to provide information about the courses on offer and campus life. The Expo provided future students with the chance to talk to academics and student ambassadors, while program presentations and tours offered a more in-depth understanding of the programs available. Creative Industries students showcased their talents with live performances, and visitors could take part in food and activities. There was also the opportunity to visit the various programs and learn about interesting curriculum in marquees located in different parts of the campus.
